A boss in the UK is putting his money where his mouth is by giving his staff an extra boost to their paycheck to help them pay their bills…
Money is tight globally right now, as the cost of living has risen exponentially over the last year. And one boss in the UK is doing all he can to help his employees.
Fifty-one-year-old James Hipkins has spent a total of $59,000, giving each of his staff members a $985 bonus to help them through this tough time.
Hipkins, who is the managing director of the building supply company Emerys Timber and Builders Merchants, understands that “everyone is suffering” right now, and he wants to “share back” with his staff.
“With everybody struggling we just thought we want to share some of that good fortune with the staff,” James told The Sun. “They weren’t expecting it and they were overjoyed. I think they’ve found it’s a great help when everything’s a bit bleak.”
“If you believe in your people, give back to them when you’re doing well,” he said, referring to his business that has seen a boost in sales recently…
“You can’t just think ‘aren’t we good’ when someone’s having a tough time. “I think that should be a contagious ethos. And hopefully, you breed some loyalty with it.”
And he credits the success of his business to his employees too. He said: “It’s nice that we can see we are doing well as a company and it’s nice to feel it’s shared back with the people who make it successful.
“We are only as good as our people – they are the ones who produce the figures and make us profitable.”
Hipkins added: “Being a good boss is getting good figures and good results but it’s also providing good opportunities and a good environment.
“You spend a lot of time at work and if you can enjoy it all the better.” I think a lot of employers should take a leaf out of his book, what do you think?
