Law enforcement sources told NBC New York that a man was allegedly seen throwing a device before opening fire in the station.

A statement by the NYPD asked people to avoid the area.

“ADVISORY: Due to an investigation, avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn. Expect emergency vehicles and delays in the surrounding area,” the NYPD wrote on Twitter.

Governor Kathy Hochul said in a tweet that “first responders are on the scene.”

Photos and videos of the tragic scene have since been circulating online, showing people running from the train that appears to be filled with smoke.

One of the passengers on board the train at the time of the attack has described what she saw at the time…

The woman, who has simply been named Clair, shared that she heard so many gunshots go off that she “lost count” of how many rounds were fired.

“There was like, lots of them. I don’t even know how many,” she said.

She also described the alleged suspect as a black man who appeared to be around 170 pounds and 5-foot-5 in stature. She claims he was wearing an orange vest and gas mask.

Clair also revealed that she saw him drop “some kind of cylinder that sparked at the top.”

“I thought he was an MTA worker at first because I was like, I didn’t like pay too much attention. You know? You’ve got the orange on,” she said.
